When you send us your
manuscript, we will do everything we can to make your paper acceptable to
your intended audience. Obviously, the initial
work—and all of the decisions—will have to be performed by you, the author. We’ll try to make what comes
after that as easy as possible. First, we'll do the basics:
check and correct the spelling, grammar, usage and style. Next, we'll conform the
structure of your manuscript to your target's requirements: appropriate
scientific terms and units, correct citation format, proper placement and
treatment of your tables and figures, etc. Most published scientific or
medical papers conform to ICMJE standards;
and if they’re published in the United States, they’re usually also formatted
according to Chicago, APA, or AMA style. Moreover, different journals have
their own requirements. We’ll do that for you. Then, we'll read it for sense
and readability. We'll rewrite overly complex sentences for clarity (taking
care not to lose the authors' point); restructure the presentation of content
so that your paper flows in a logical sequence; take out redundancies and
jargon; and vet your references. We’ll leave comments suggesting ways to
improve it even more. Later, we can help you cope
with reviewers’ remarks. Science can be very
competitive, and even the best research may be rejected for publication for
the flimsiest reasons. The look and clarity of your manuscript shouldn’t be
one of them. |
